Voice Portal
Phone Data Access Using Voice XML

VoicePortal IVR Systems and Services

voice portal Database Systems Corp. (DSC) has been a leading provider of database access products and services since 1978.

DSC provides IVR (Interactive Voice Response) solutions using XML and VXML technology for customers throughout the United States and Canada.

This technology includes accessing information throughout a local area network or the internet using a phone system equipped with our IVR software. Systems accessing information in this fashion are often referred to as voice portals.

What Is A Voice Portal?

"A voice portal is an automated computer interface between a telephone caller and a digital information source. In telephony, it's the point of entry for a person using an interactive voice response or voice recognition system.

A voice portal is also referred to as a vortal. It is a service or web site that is accessible to a caller wishing to obtain information such as weather, account balances, sporting scores, or stock quotes."
Our voice portal phone systems can automatically access information from your computer systems and web servers using XML pull logic, retrieving web information and converting this to voice.

Voiceportal (Vortal) Data Access

Database Systems Corp. supports voice portal web information access logic that enables our PACER and WIZARD IVR Phone Systems to make external requests for information via the internet. Using this technique, callers can be given information maintained anywhere on the web.

Using our Text To Speech application software, text information can be retrieved via discreet messages to other web sites (or servers) and this information converted into a phone message that is automatically played to the caller. Virtually any type of information can now be relayed to a caller using our phone system.

ART - Arlington Transit operates within Arlington County, Virginia, supplementing Metrobus with smaller, neighborhood-friendly vehicles and providing access to Metrorail and Virginia Railway Express (VRE). Most of ART's state-of-the ART buses operate on clean-burning natural gas; all have climate control to keep you comfortable and dependable schedules to keep you on time."

ART uses our IVR call center and technology as a voice portal to assist commuters waiting for bus service. This is how our their vortal application works:
  • Callers use a cell phone to call an 800 number published at each bus stop.
  • Commuters enter the bus stop number on the phone keypad.
  • Our voiceportal service sends a query to a central dispatch website.
  • Information about the next bus to arrive at this particular stop is retrieved.
  • Data is pushed back to our IVR phone system using VXML.
  • Data is converted using our text to speech program.
  • A message is played to the caller, giving them the time of the next bus arrival.
